The Renewables Obligation is a Government mechanism to encourage investment in renewable energy. It is central to the United Kingdom Government’s policy to raise the amount of renewable energy generated in the UK.

The renewables obligation (RO) has been guaranteed to be available for longer recently (UK pre-budget report).

The Alistair Darling MP has stated it is a Government wish which remains in place, despite the economic difficulties, not to let the present state of the economy impact badly on spending in the sector of renewable energy projects and environmental schemes generally.

“Action to achieve environmental goals remains a high priority,” he stated in his address to Parliament. Most importantly, the pre-budget report states the Renewables Obligation will be extended until “at least 2037” This is said to be in order to encourage rising investment in all renewable energy technology.

So, all UK investors can now plan with confidence for the future so that over the next decade the market will continue to deliver the renewable energy schemes, and contracts let, which will enable the UK to need to their 2020 target.

This means that electricity supply companies are still going to be encouraged to source continually increasing amounts of the electricity they sell (5.5% in 2005/06 rising to 15.4% by 2015/16) from renewable supplies the largest of which will be from wind turbines.

The Renewables Obligation is the Department’s main policy mechanism aimed at increasing the proportion of electricity that is generated from renewable sources throughout the UK. It is expected to make a significant contribution towards achievement of the current target of 12% contained in the Department’s Strategic Energy Framework for the proportion of electricity that is generated from indigenous renewable sources by 2012.

The Renewables Obligation has however been criticised by some as an example of a green policy that has seriously unpleasant side effects and fails to achieve its objectives. The criticism is that the RO is a system which provides the same level of financial support for all eligible renewable projects. The Department adopted this approach as an easy opt -out, they say, to ensure that the most economic renewable energy projects are developed first, while minimising Government intervention in the market. However, the instrument is too blunt and important opportunities are in danger of being missed.

Generators get the same amount of ROC support for each MWh, no matter where in the UK they are sited. However, power generated closer to the main urban areas will incur far fewer distribution losses and hence costs to the nation to use it.

Larger wind farms may require to distribute their power to consumers further away and hence use grid lines running at 132kV, 275kV and 400kV, controlled by National Grid that are designed to take power over greater distances. These are going to need extending and strengthening.

Generators based in Scotland are therefore at an advantage, due to for example, their high winds. They can produce more power from the same investment due to those higher winds but should they still get the same price for their output?

The Renewables Obligation is said by its critics also to be failing the technologies that most need help. Designed to be technology neutral, it raises the most money for the lowest cost technologies.

So, the RO is a market led measure and will remain so. The Obligation is helping the UK renewable industry to take forward those renewable technologies that are close to becoming commercially competitive, but does nothing for innovation.

See our video about the adoption of biomass as an example of renewables Power Schemes

Renewable energy policy is a primary part of climate change policy. Climate change policy should aim to deliver curbs in emissions where they are easiest to cut, and where they require the least change in our life-styles and aspirations. The government would argue that the RO does this. However, this will coast us. Sir Nick Stern’s estimate, in the Stern Report, of a cost of some 1 per cent of national income is modest, and is equivalent to foregoing half a year’s British growth in terms of recent growth achieved.

Wind Farming is not the only form of renewables Power Schemes. There are many others, such as:

  1. Energy recovery from sewers
  2. Anaerobic Digestion
  3. Energy piles
  4. Hydro-electric

ACQUIRE POWER THROUGH SELF DEVELOPMENT.

It is the natural right of every human being to be happy to escape all the miseries of life. Happiness is the normal condition, as natural as the landscapes and the seasons. It is unnatural to suffer and it is only because of our ignorance that we do suffer. Happiness is the product of wisdom. To attain perfect wisdom, to comprehend fully the purpose of life, to realize completely the relationship of human beings to each other, is to put an end to all suffering, to escape every ill and evil that afflicts us.

Why do we suffer in life? Because in the scheme of nature we are being forced forward in evolution and we lack the spiritual illumination that alone can light the way and enable us to move safely among the obstacles that lie before us. Usually we do not even see or suspect the presence of trouble until it suddenly leaps upon us like a concealed tiger. One day our family circle is complete and happy. A week later death has come and gone and joy is replaced with agony.

Today we have a friend. Tomorrow he will be an enemy and we do not know why. A little while ago we had wealth and all material luxuries. There was a sudden change and now we have only poverty and misery and yet we seek in vain for a reason why this should be. There was a time when we had health and strength; but they have both departed and no trace of a reason appears. Aside from these greater tragedies of life innumerable things of lesser consequence continually bring to us little miseries and minor heartaches.

We most earnestly desire to avoid them but we never see them until they strike us, until in the darkness of our ignorance we blunder upon them. The thing we lack is the spiritual illumination that will enable us to look far and wide, finding the hidden causes of human suffering and revealing the method by which they may be avoided; and if we can but reach illumination the evolutionary journey can be made both comfortably and swiftly.

It is as though we must pass through a long, dark room filled with furniture promiscuously scattered about. In the darkness our progress would be slow and painful and our bruises many. But if we could press a button that would turn on the electric light we could then make the same journey quickly and with perfect safety and comfort.

The old method of education was to store the mind with as many facts, or supposed facts, as could be accumulated and to give a certain exterior polish to the personality. The theory was that when a man was born he was a completed human being and that all that could be done for him was to load him up with information that would be used with more or less skill.

The theosophical idea is that the physical man, and all that constitutes his life in the physical world, is but a very partial expression of the self; that in the ego of each there is practically unlimited power and wisdom; that these may be brought through into expression in the physical world as the physical body and its invisible counterparts, which together constitute the complex vehicle of the ego’s manifestation, are evolved and adapted to the purpose; and that in exact proportion that conscious effort is given to such self-development will spiritual illumination be achieved and wisdom attained. Thus the light that leads to happiness is kindled from within and the evolutionary journey that all are making may be robbed of its suffering.

Why does death bring misery? Chiefly because it separates us from those we love. The only other reason why death brings grief or fear is because we do not understand it and comprehend the part it plays in human evolution. But the moment our ignorance gives way to comprehension such fear vanishes and a serene happiness takes its place.

Why do we have enemies from whose words or acts we suffer? Because in our limited physical consciousness we do not perceive the unity of all life and realize that our wrong thinking and doing must react upon us through other people a situation from which there is no possible escape except through ceasing to think evil and then patiently awaiting the time when the causes we have already generated are fully exhausted. When spiritual illumination comes, and we no longer stumble in the night of ignorance, the last enemy will disappear and we shall make no more forever.

Why do people suffer from poverty and disease? Only because of our blundering ignorance that makes their existence possible for us, and because we do not comprehend their meaning and their lessons, nor know the attitude to assume toward them. Had we but the wisdom to understand why they come to people, why they are necessary factors in their evolution, they would trouble us no longer. When nature’s lesson is fully learned these mute teachers will vanish.

And so it is with all forms of suffering we experience. They are at once reactions from our ignorant blunderings and instructors that point out the better way. When we have comprehended the lessons they teach they are no longer necessary and disappear. It is not by the outward acquirement of facts that men become wise and great.

Whenever it comes to balancing a family, including young children, a home and perhaps a full time job to boot, you have choices. If you find that your workload sometimes seems like it is just too much, take heart!

From an outside perspective, I would say that the key to success in organizing is the ability to prioritize your various commitments, enlist the help of others, and not sweat the small stuff.

Do you feel overwhelmed? If you would like good time management skills, practice the COPE method.

COPE is an acronym for Capitalize, Organize, Prioritize, and Energize.

* Capitalize on the ability of every child to assist with household chores such as setting the table, clearing the dishes and vacuuming the floor. Teach them very early to put away their toys and make their own beds. Put all of your perfectionist tendencies aside while the children are growing up. Do more with your children and less for your children. If you do all of this, you will be blessed.

* Organize your home to make it easier to find and store things. Large shelves or a huge toy chest and hangers placed where children can reach them are good examples. Keep things in see-through containers, hang an essential rack on the wall, keep storage bins on casters beneath the beds and then centrally locate a lost and found basket to stash items left lying around the house.

* Prioritize each of your tasks. You cannot do everything but you can do a lot. Pick the most important activity and then concentrate on getting it done. If something falls through the cracks, let it be the laundry but not the family outing. Do what is really important, not simply the things that need to be done.

* Energize yourself by getting plenty of rest, eat all of the right foods and adhere to an exercise program. Being physically fit and mentally alert will allow you to handle those stressful situations, which always pop up. Pick a form of exercise that you enjoy that way you are more likely to stick with it. The best way to make sure that you eat a balanced diet is to plan ahead and work out a menu for the next 4 or 5 days. Make sure you eat lots of fruit and vegetables. And incorporate some relaxtaion techniques into your daily life. Do not do chores at the expense of sleep time. Let the house collapse all around you before you do.

If I was told I could only have one item of baby equipment, without hesitation, I would select a baby sling. I did not own a sling for my first three of my seven children. I had no knowledge of them outside of maybe seeing pictures of women in third world countries using them to strap their babies to them. Something significant happened during the seven years between the births of my third and fourth daughter: the rise in popularity of the internet. With the internet came the easy exchange of ideas.

Other hands free ways to hold your baby are Baby Front Carriers and baby backpacks. Greco and Baby Bjorn are two of the more favourite brands of front carriers. With these, two padded shoulder straps go over your shoulders and criss-cross your back. The straps adjust to take different sizes and shapes. The baby is then slid into a supportive pocket with leg holes that leave the feet dangling. As the baby grows and gets stronger, many carriers allow the baby to face outward. Personally speaking, the baby front carrier seemed awkward to me. If the baby fell asleep while in the carrier, it was hard to gently remove her to lay her down in the crib. Also, having the baby in front was both physically and visually impairing, making the accomplishments of such tasks as sewing, meal preparation, cleaning, caring for older children, et cetera more challenging.

Baby backpacks have metal or plastic tube frames to stand the frame up in order to put in the child. Then the frame is elevated and slid onto the back of the adult. I learned that the baby got heavy rapidly with this method. Also, I didn’t like the fact that I had no visual contact with the baby while she was on my back. I also couldn’t just sit down and take a rest without having to first remove the backpack. I personally didn’t like the functionality of the backpack for times when the baby fell asleep. Additionally, it was rather large and took up quite a bit of space when it was not in use.

Nine years ago, after the birth of my fourth daughter, I was finally introduced to … cue up the Halleluah chorus … A BABY SLING!!! There are several kinds; my favorite sling style was a long piece of fabric that fed through two metal fastening rings, leaving a “tail” of fabric. The absolute favourite was the Maya Wrap with a pocket sewn into the tail, which I used to carry a couple extra diapers and wipes, and often my car keys and notecase! With the baby sling, I could carry the baby high or low, on the front, side, or back, facing forward or facing me, and lying down or sitting up. I was also able to breast feed in a tactful, usually hands free manner, covering any unintentional exposure with the tailpiece of the sling, which easily went over my shoulder. As the baby grew, the sling easily adjusted to take her changing comfort preferences. Up until my children were about four or five years old, I was able to continuously use my sling for hands free carrying. As a child care center owner, there were many times where I was able to put two children comfortably in one sling allowing me to still use my hands for other things. I often used the sling to hold and bottle-feed infant twins.

As you can see, I am a bit biased toward slings, but the other hands free baby carriers might be absolutely ideal for your needs. Look at all options and try a few out. Whichever you choose, you will be a happier, more productive new parent as you learn to incorporate the joy of nurturing your newborn with the other long list of tasks that you have.

Since Alzheimer’s disease became the disease du jour of the media, people have been afraid that any memory loss might be the onset of Alzheimer’s. But this is not true. And it’s never too late to learn how to improve your memory by easy to use memory techniques. There’s a lot of details in the world that constantly bombard us, so these memory techniques should help you learn what you need to remember when you need to.

Pronouncing Words Or Names

One of the most embarrassing things that can happen is pronouncing somebody’s name wrong by mistaken identity, especially if that someone is either your boss or your client. It’s also frustrating for children (and adults) to get around tongue-twisting words like “abominable”. For this memory technique, you make a picture in your mind to help you learn how to correctly pronounce the word. Picture a bull staring at you, chewing cud. Inside of that bull is a ticking bomb. What do you have? A bomb in a bull – or the pronunciation of the word “abominable”.

Short Lists

Perhaps you’ve gone to the grocery store and didn’t bother to make a list because you only need a few things. But when you get home, darn it if you discover that you forgot something. One memory technique for remembering short lists and remembering names is to devise a very short rhyme that includes all of the items on your list. For some reason, the brain remembers short rhymes better than prose. For even better memory, set it to a tune you know well. So, to the tune of “Take Me Out To The Ball Game,” your shopping list memory poem might sound something like:

“Take me out to the food store
Take me out to the crowd
Buy me some wheat bread and Snapple, Jack,
I would care for some ham for a snack!
So, it’s root, root, root
frozen veggies
Chicken broth, I implore
For it’s salt, pepper and paprika
That I need at the store!”

Okay, so it’s not Shakespeare, but that’s not the point.

Sleep On It

Another memory technique often works for those mulling over a stressful problem, like where you last put your half-written manuscript. Just put the lost item or idea out of your mind and try to get to sleep as usual. The unconscious often works on our problems as we sleep. When you wake up, you’ll most likely remember that. Getting regular sleep will also help you to concentrate and remember these memory techniques.

Wine gift baskets are a really great gift option, particularly because you can include basically whatever you want in them. This can include anything from wine to wine accessories and tickets to wine tours – whatever you can think of, and it doesn’t even have to relate to wine, although it makes sense to stick to the general wine idea.

Making Your own Wine Gift Baskets

If you decide to make your own Fruit Wines gift baskets, then the first thing you are going to have to do is to get all of the materials and tools together that you are going to need. This means buying everything that you are going to include in the basket, as well as ribbon, tape, plastic covering, and whatever other materials that you are interested in and having it ready.

You want to set the items in the basket and move them around a bit here and there, so that you can determine which way looks most aesthetically appealing, and once you have done this then you can start setting them into place and taping the plastic covering over the basket.

Buying Wine Gift Baskets

If you would prefer to just buy your wine gift baskets commercially, then you can do this as well, and there are a couple of great companies in particular that you are going to want to check out for this.

One is Wine County Gift Baskets, which is a company that offers the absolute best selection of value priced, handcrafted gift baskets and gift towers, and this includes corporate gift baskets, gourmet gift food baskets, spa gift baskets, coffee gift baskets and tea gift baskets, just to name a few of the many offered selections.

You can pick and choose from their vast and varied selection in order to make up your own personalized Low Alcohol Wine gift basket, and you can then order it hand delivered to the doorstep of the lucky receiver.

Another great option here is Express Gift Baskets, a company that was established a decade ago, in 1997, and which since then has been shipping thousands of baskets and Wine Making Tips across the world. They specialize in the corporate market and carry a full line of promotional items.
